The following article may or may not be a review of the Bosch GBH 2-20 DRE Professional Rotary Hammer but is intended to be an info article with further description, photographs and technical specifications as provided by the manufacturer.
The Bosch GBH 2-20 DRE Professional Rotary Hammer is the very first rotary hammer drill which I bought some time in mid-2014, after having seen the capabilities of a few via online video reviews.
Having drilled countless times into super hard concrete over the years, even with good hammer drills like the Bosch GSB 500 RE and Bosch PSB 400-2, I came to the realisation that a rotary hammer was quite the way to go.
If drilling concrete walls is part of your core activities either as a profession or as a hobby, if you do concrete drilling often enough in your DIY projects, I highly recommend that you give a rotary hammer serious consideration.
While a conventional drill or hammer drill is quite alright and adequate for drilling normal brick walls, a rotary hammer is just so much more efficient on shear walls and high-grade concrete walls.
With the right attachments, it is also an ideal tool for chiselling work on masonry.
On the Bosch GBH 2-20 DRE, it is as easy as inserting the appropriate SDS chisel bit (see left) and selecting the hammer mode on the dial. This replaces the tedious task of working a channel on a wall manually with a hammer…and chisel. With a pointed chisel, masonry items can also be broken down into smaller pieces.
The Bosch GBH 2-20 DRE is quite affordable, and was purchased for a little under RM500.00.
For straightforward but hard-core drilling, the Bosch GSB 2-20 RE works great! Even for drilling on brickwork, the GSB 2-20 RE has a normal drill function that doesn’t hammer the bit when it is not required.
I have used the Bosch GBH 2-20 DRE for drilling shear walls at various places (home, friend’s home, and contracting projects) when I needed to mount a cabinet or fixture on the wall or ceiling.
For cordless convenience, I often rely on the 36V Hilti TE 6-A36 AVR Cordless Rotary Hammer, which is a lot more expensive and beyond the price reach of the casual DIY-er.
For straightforward jobs at home, the Bosch GBH 2-20 DRE Professional Rotary Hammer is likely the best rotary hammer money can buy at its price range and class.
